As open source AI assistants go, NanoClaw is unusually small: about 500 lines of TypeScript that the project says you can read and understand in under 10 minutes.
NanoClaw is an AI assistant that runs Claude inside OS-level containers, so security comes from isolation at the operating system rather than from layers of application logic.
The small codebase is the point.
NanoClaw has minimal dependencies compared with typical AI assistants, and you customize it by editing the code directly instead of flipping settings.
If you want an assistant you can fully read, fork and reshape, that is a real advantage.
It is released under the MIT License.
NanoClaw needs Node.js 20 or newer and Claude Code, plus Apple Container on macOS or Docker on Linux.
It focuses on the Claude model, so it is not a general front end for other providers.
Expect a developer-oriented setup rather than a download-and-chat app.
